Positive Reinforcement Genius Bucks- Positive behaviors such as following classroom rules, completing jobs, coming to class prepared, completing homework assignments, helping a classmate, etc. will be rewarded with Genius Bucks. Genius Bucks can be redeemed for additional school supplies, snacks, restroom pass, drink pass, homework pass, free choice times, etc. Gumball Machine- While the Genius Bucks reward individual students, the gumball machine rewards the class as a whole. When the entire class is on task and following directions, a gumball will be added. When the gumball machine is full (50 gumballs) the class will earn an extra recess! Hot Seat- Each morning I will randomly (and secretly) select a student to be in the "Hot Seat." If the selected student works hard and follows directions all day a small treat will be earned. If the student does not work hard and follow directions their identity will not be revealed. Verbal Praise- Verbal praise is given frequently! Negative Reinforcement While I prefer to use positive reinforcement, occasionally negative reinforcement is necessary. Students are ultimately responsible for their own behavior and the following steps will be taken as needed: 1. Warning 2. Check on clipboard (lose 5 minutes of recess) 3. Second check on clipboard (note home/lose entire recess) 4. Third check on clipboard (sent to principal) |
